Cedar Counselling
Therapist Background
Jeri-Lyn has a MA in Counselling Psychology and has worked in mental health for 20 years providing services to clients with serious and persistent mental illness. Highlights of roles include Program Coordinator, Addictions Counsellor, Private Therapist, Intake Clinician, and Case Manager.
She has also worked in hospice and palliative care settings. She enjoys working with clients of all ages and cultural backgrounds; she is comfortable in the office, doing outreach or seeing clients in facilities such as group homes and hospitals.
What Happens in Therapy
Part of Jeri-Lyn's counselling practice helps families, partners and friends get the support and information they need as well.
Jeri-Lyn's approach to therapy is pretty straight-forward: sessions are often conversations to get to know each other and set up expectations for working together; relaxation and body awareness, the client is the expert, focus on the solution rather than the problem, and "do whatever it takes". A range of techniques Jeri-Lyn oftens uses include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour modules, EFT, body work, EMDR, DeTUR, and FSAP protocols.
A Few More Details
At the moment, Cedar Counselling is a one-woman business with flexibility for office sites, days and hours. She also offers Skype sessions and on-line counselling depending on client issues.
Jeri-Lyn also has counselling contracts with WorkSafeBC, ICBC and Victims' Service Assistance Program. These agencies usually offer 6-8 sessions for short-term counselling. Clients can also check with their extended health benefits to cover the cost of counselling.
Clients and referrers can call, email or text to contact Jeri-Lyn. Please allow 24 hours for a return call. Often clients can be seen for initial assessment within a week.
