Deltassist Family and Community Services - Substance Use Services

Deltassist Family and Community Services is a multi-service, non-profit agency that has been offering services to residents of Delta since 1972. The Substance Use Services program, operating since 1985, offers individual, couples, family, youth and group services to those who are directly or indirectly affected by substance use. The Main North Delta office has reception hours Monday to Friday from 9:00 am - 4:30 pm.  Both offices are wheelchair accessible. Appointments are made with the individual counsellors and after-hours appointments are open depending on availability. Services are provided in line with the biopsychosocialspiritual model with a trauma-informed, client-centered empowering perspective.  Referrals can be made to treatment centres.  An eight week psychoeducation group provides an introduction to the Substance Use Services Program and after completion of this group, clients may atend up to six months of individual services. Groups are generally run in the evening to accomodate working clients. Referrals to other resources can be facilitated as needed. Deltassist is committed to continually reviewing and improving services and considers client input and feedback an integral aspect of providing this service. Counsellors providing services to seniors or youth may provide outreach depending on the clients' needs. Youth and seniors may be seen at schools, in their homes, in the community, or at either the North Delta main office or the satellite office in Tsawwassen depending on what best meets their needs.

Generally clients self refer; however, referrals are accepted from schools, doctors, probation, MCFD or other health professionals. There is usually a 2-4 week wait for individual services; however, youth, fragile seniors, women who are pregnant, and clients who have a significant mental wellness issue are fast-tracked. A protocol is in place with Adult Delta Mental Health to assist clients who have a significant mental wellness issue.

Deltassist also provides consultation and information to doctors or other health professionals to assist in determining resources that would best meet client needs.

There is no cost for this service.
